Singing, playing instruments, or carrying a boombox the mummers often come with music!
In this presentation you will learn more about the music traditions associated with mummering. The
ugly stick, for example, has played a large role in Newfoundland times throughout the years. It’s about four feet long, on which bottle caps, tin cans, small bells and other noisemakers are attached. It is played by thumping the stick, and striking its attachments with a "saw"--a notched stick that really gets those bottle-caps rattling! Learn more about accordions, fiddles, and
spoons, and try your hand at playing an ugly stick.
Presented in partnership with The Rooms.
